Below
are comments from the staff of Saint Joseph's Translational Research
Institute, Saint Joseph's Hospital Atlanta, and Gwinnett County
Fire Services about their participation in this study:
Catherine Skrifvars, RN, Clinical Research Coordinator, Saint Josephs Translational Research Institute
In my private and professional life I have long known how devastating cardiac disease can be. Since joining the cardiac disease prevention and research team I have witnessed how early detection and intervention can change the inevitable downhill course of this disease process. It is very exciting to be part of the Firefighter Heart Disease Prevention Study I look forward to working with the wonderful firefighters from Gwinnett County.
Steve Rolader,
Fire Chief, Gwinnett County Fire Services
From
my perspective this is the most important initiative of my 31 year
fire service career. I hope our legacy will be the beginning of
the end of the staggering and unacceptable number of cardiac related
deaths in our profession.
Brenda Garrett-Superko,
RN, Genomics Center, Saint Joseph's Translational Research Institute
Nurse for 25+ years with a primary focus and
a personal dedication to Cardiovascular Health. I enjoy teaching
the public on the inherited aspects of cardiovascular disease and
promoting awareness and prevention among those at risk – prior to
learning they have a risk when they have a heart attack!
I had the pleasure of working with Gwinnett County Firefighters
in the previous Pilot project which helped set the stage for this
FEMA funded research program
Ron Dials,
Information Services, Saint Joseph's Hospital
Atlanta
It's a pleasure being selected to represent the
organization from Information Services. I have a background in public
service working on active duty for the US Coast Guard. I consider
it a privilege to work with another "Life-Saving" organization
while contributing to this study.
