Dr. Superko has spent the last 26
years investigating metabolic and genetic aspects of heart disease
with a focus on translating basic science discoveries into practical
tools that benefit patient care.
As Director of the Lipid Research
Clinic and Laboratories at Stanford University (10 years) he conducted
NIH funded research on a wide spectrum of heart disease issues included
the effect of various diets, exercise and weight loss, coffee consumption,
alcohol consumption, garlic consumption, medications, and coronary
artery regression trials.
Dr. Superko also served as Director
of the Cholesterol Research Center at the University of California
Berkeley (10 years) where he became involved in the inherited aspects
of heart disease and conducted numerous investigations involving
gene/environment interactions.
Responding to the clinical demand
for advanced laboratory blood tests to help diagnose heart disease,
he co-founded Berkeley HeartLab Inc. as part of the translation
of federal research findings into practical clinical care.Most
recently he moved to Atlanta and accepted the position as Executive
Director, Center for Genomics and Human Health at the Saint Joseph’s
Translational Research Institute.
Dr. Superko has received many awards
and is a reviewer for 26 medical journals and on the editorial board
of four. He has published over 100 first authored manuscripts and
19 textbook chapters and is the author of Before the Heart Attacks,
a book written for the lay public explaining advanced aspects of
heart disease. |
