Dr. Wasserman is Professor of Medicine,
Emeritus, on Recall, and former Chief of Respiratory Physiology
and Medicine at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center at the David Geffen School
of Medicine, at UCLA.
He received his PhD in Physiology
(Circulation) and Medical degree at Tulane University School of
Medicine. He had his internship at Johns Hopkins Hospital, Osler
Service, and Special USPHS Research Fellowship at the Cardiovascular
Research Institute, at UCSF.
He was Assistant Professor of Medicine
at Stanford Medical School and Associate and Full Professor of Medicine
at UCLA, where he served for 30 years as Chief of Respiratory and
Critical Physiology and Medicine before he went on Emeritus Professor
on Recall status.
Dr. Wasserman has published over
275 peer reviewed research publications on blood volume, capillary
permeability, pulmonary hemodynamics, renal physiology and extensively
in exercise physiology in health and disease over the past 40 years.
He has authored, co-authored or edited 5 books on these topics.
Dr. Wasserman is a member of the
American Physiological Society, American Heart Association (Cardiopulmonary
Council, Basic Science Council, Fellow of Council on Circulation)Fellow
of the American College of Chest Physicians, American Federation
for Clinical Research. He served on Research Committees of the American
Heart Association and the American Thoracic Socisety.
